Technical Issue Halts Bar–Bijelo Polje Train in Sozina Tunnel

A technical malfunction in a locomotive brought train services to a temporary halt on the Bar–Bijelo Polje route today. The incident occurred at approximately 15:30 local time in the Sozina Tunnel, according to a statement from the Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore (ŽPCG).

The train, designated as number 6102, departed from Bar at 15:30. A fault was reported by the crew at 16:45 while the train was within the tunnel. ŽPCG confirmed that all standard procedures for railway operations were followed during the incident. Passengers were promptly informed, and the conductor was required to exit the train to report the situation.

“The locomotive engineer immediately attempted to resolve the issue, while the conductor fulfilled his duty by notifying the relevant authorities,” the ŽPCG statement detailed. Due to technical limitations in the tunnel, one of the two conductors had to leave the train to reach a signaling point and communicate with the necessary services.

Assistance was quickly dispatched, and a replacement locomotive was sent to the site. This backup locomotive successfully reached the affected train and towed it to Sutomore station by 17:42. Following this, services were resumed without significant delay.

The train resumed its journey to Bijelo Polje at 18:11, now equipped with a functioning locomotive. Although ŽPCG is currently operating older locomotives, they assured that the malfunction was minor and did not compromise passenger safety.

All protocols were strictly adhered to, ensuring that safety remained the highest priority throughout the incident. To further enhance safety and reliability, ŽPCG has plans for a modernization of its fleet starting next year. They expressed gratitude to passengers for their understanding and patience during this brief disruption.
