Vucic Addresses Allegations of Serbian Involvement in Montenegro
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, responded to claims from Montenegro that the Serbian government is responsible for ongoing issues involving the Turkish community in the region. His remarks came after Rifat Fejzic, the head of the Islamic Community in Montenegro, questioned whether Belgrade was punishing Turkey through its actions in Montenegro.
During a press conference, Vucic addressed the allegations, stating, “Currently, there are approximately 13,000 Turks living in Montenegro. Following an incident that involved stabbings, the Montenegrin authorities have directed blame towards the government in Belgrade for their problems.”
He emphasized that incidents such as those occurring in the villages of Kavaci and Skaljari are not the responsibility of Serbia. “We do not kill in their country; rather, they are the ones who commit acts of violence in ours,” Vucic asserted, highlighting the complexity of the situation and the regional dynamics at play.
Vucic expressed frustration over the tendency to overlook the real perpetrators of criminal activities, asserting that this issue extends beyond the Balkans. He indicated a desire for clarity regarding who is truly behind the criminal actions affecting both nations.
The Serbian president’s comments reflect ongoing tensions in the region, particularly regarding the relations between Serbia, Montenegro, and Turkey. The historical and contemporary issues surrounding these countries often intertwine, making it challenging to navigate diplomatic relations effectively.
As the situation develops, it remains crucial for both governments to address these allegations constructively. Vucic’s remarks underscore the importance of dialogue and understanding in resolving conflicts that have deep roots in the region’s history.
