Spajić emphasized the importance of accelerating reforms to achieve ambitious goals during a recent meeting with Marta Kos, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement.
This meeting, described by Spajić as highly constructive, took place in the context of Montenegro’s ongoing efforts to advance its EU accession talks. The Prime Minister highlighted that the government is preparing to return to Brussels within a month for an Intergovernmental Conference aimed at closing multiple negotiation chapters. He expressed confidence that Montenegro is ready to move “more decisively” toward achieving its EU membership goal.
Key Developments in Montenegro’s EU Integration Efforts
The Prime Minister’s comments come at a pivotal time for Montenegro, which has faced various challenges in its path toward EU membership. Spajić noted that 2026 will be a year of significant decisions for both the EU and Montenegro. The government is committed to ensuring that the reforms needed for integration are implemented effectively and timely.
According to Spajić, the reforms are designed to align Montenegro’s policies and practices with EU standards, thereby facilitating the accession process. The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the urgency with which Montenegro views its EU aspirations. He reiterated that the country is prepared to take the necessary steps to meet the EU’s requirements.
Spajić’s proactive stance reflects Montenegro’s desire for a transparent and equitable integration process. As the country prepares for its upcoming meetings in Brussels, the focus remains on maintaining momentum in reform efforts and fostering cooperation with EU officials.
