Swiss Inventor Takes to the Seas to Explore Longevity Secrets
Tobias Reichmuth, a Swiss entrepreneur and investor, is currently engaged in an ambitious project called BlueCruise, an 18-month expedition aimed at exploring the world’s Blue Zones. These unique regions are known for their high concentrations of centenarians. As he relaxes on his 45-meter explorer yacht, Prometej, off the coast of Capri, Reichmuth reflects on his quest to uncover the secrets of longevity while promoting healthy living at sea.
BlueCruise is not just an expedition; it is a floating retreat equipped with a plethora of wellness facilities and a diverse lineup of guests. These visitors include adventure photographers and even a Shaolin monk, each contributing to the overarching theme of health and longevity. Reichmuth describes the journey as “a longevity trip for daily life,” highlighting his commitment to understanding and implementing healthy practices.
Reichmuth’s journey is deeply personal. Growing up in a village near Basel, he embraced a wholesome lifestyle, always eager to organize activities and foster community. His professional path led him to significant roles in fintech and energy transition. “In the year I turned 40, my parents turned 70,” he shares, reflecting on how this milestone prompted him to reassess his priorities. With ample time during the COVID-19 pandemic and financial stability following two successful business exits, he felt ready to pursue something meaningful.
The idea for BlueCruise was influenced by the book Lifespan by David Sinclair, which Reichmuth refers to as “sort of a bible for early movers in longevity.” This book sparked a new passion for him, integrating the principles of longevity into various aspects of his life, from dietary choices to investment strategies. He believes that by helping his parents maintain their vitality, he also enhances his own well-being, creating a cycle of mutual benefit. “That’s impact investing, isn’t it?” he asserts.
Reichmuth’s focus on longevity is part of a broader trend where individuals seek to extend healthy living through various practices and innovations. His yacht serves as a microcosm of this movement, showcasing how lifestyle and wellness can intertwine in extraordinary ways. The expedition not only aims to discover the secrets behind long life but also demonstrates how individuals can actively participate in their own health journeys.
As he sails through picturesque waters, Reichmuth remains driven by the desire to contribute positively to the world while exploring the depths of human potential. His journey encapsulates a modern interpretation of adventure, one that blends exploration with meaningful engagement in the pursuit of longevity. The results of this expedition may influence not only his life but also the lives of many who seek to understand the essence of aging gracefully in a fast-paced world.
