Kendall Jenner Embraces Glassblowing, Risks Heat-Related Injuries
Kendall Jenner has taken a bold step away from her typical fashion pursuits, diving into the intricate and physically demanding art of glassblowing. This holiday season, the 30-year-old supermodel shared her experience with her 285 million Instagram followers, highlighting the creative process behind working with molten glass.
Throughout the weekend, Jenner posted a series of behind-the-scenes images and videos from her time in a glassblowing studio. In these visuals, she was seen handling glowing orange glass straight from a furnace, which operates at temperatures exceeding 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Glassblowing, a craft steeped in history, requires not only artistic vision but also impeccable timing and skill to avoid accidents that could lead to severe burns or other injuries.
Safety is paramount in glassblowing, and Jenner appeared to adhere to essential protocols. She donned oversized black safety goggles to shield her eyes from intense heat and flying shards. Additionally, she wore thick, heat-resistant gloves designed for protection against hot tools and glass. Her outfit included a blue-and-green plaid flannel shirt layered over a white T-shirt, dark denim jeans, and sturdy black work boots, all suitable for the workshop environment.
Exploring Creative Passions
Glassblowing involves continuously reheating and shaping glass while rotating a blowpipe to ensure an even distribution of heat. A single miscalculation can result in the glass shattering, underscoring the importance of protective gear and professional guidance, particularly for novices. Although Jenner did not provide detailed captions for her posts, the images suggested that she was actively involved in the process, as she later showcased a small, homemade drinking glass.
This new hobby reflects Jenner’s ongoing interest in hands-on creative endeavors beyond the fashion industry. In 2020, she transformed her movie theater room into an art studio, expressing her passion for painting as a therapeutic outlet. In an interview with Architectural Digest, Jenner noted, “My life involves a lot of chaos and travel and high energy, so I wanted a home that feels serene, a place where I can simply zone out and relax.”
She further emphasized her preference for a calm environment, stating, “I’m not a huge party person… I like turning on music, lighting the fireplace and candles, and watching NBA games with my friends.” Alongside her artistic pursuits, horseback riding has been a lifelong passion for Jenner, further showcasing her diverse interests.
As Jenner explores this new artistic avenue, her followers remain captivated by her journey, eager to witness the development of her glassblowing skills and other creative ventures.
