Over 50,000 Sign Petition to Deport Nicki Minaj Amid Controversy
Calls for the deportation of rapper Nicki Minaj to her home country of Trinidad and Tobago have surged, fueled by a viral petition that has garnered over 50,000 signatures. This movement follows her unexpected appearance at Turning Point USA‘s AmericaFest and her outspoken support for the Trump administration. As old mugshots resurfaced online, so did questions about her citizenship status, culminating in a petition titled “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad.”
The petition, initiated by a user named Pedonika Minaj, outlines concerns about the rapper’s behavior. It alleges that her actions, including her marriage to registered sex offender Kenneth Petty, pose a potential risk to others. Supporters believe that deportation would not only ensure public safety but also hold her accountable for her conduct. The petition states, “Deporting Nicki Minaj back to her home country, Trinidad, seems the most viable solution to curtail her harmful actions.”
In recent comments, petition signers expressed their views. One supporter from Green Bay highlighted broader immigration issues, stating, “I want the same treatment then with every rich person in America including her and Elon.” Another signatory criticized Minaj for her past actions, arguing that deportation would be the best course of action for both her and the public.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the petition, it is essential to understand that initiatives like this do not carry any legal authority. According to Change.org, the platform serves as a tool for public advocacy rather than a means of enforcing legal action. Petitions can raise awareness and influence public opinion, but they do not compel government agencies or officials to act.
Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj, moved to the United States at the age of five. While she has repeatedly stated that she is not a U.S. citizen, she has lived in the country for decades and paid millions in taxes. In September 2024, Minaj clarified that her mother obtained a Green Card, which typically allows children to adjust their immigration status.
Legal experts indicate that deporting an individual based solely on public sentiment is not permissible. In a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2025, it was reaffirmed that authorities must establish specific legal grounds for deportation, such as visa violations or criminal convictions, through a court of law.
As the petition continues to gain traction, it serves as a reminder of the complex interplay between celebrity, public sentiment, and immigration law. While Minaj remains a polarizing figure, the reality is that the legal framework surrounding deportation is stringent and cannot be influenced merely by popular opinion.
