Conor Coady Urges Leicester City to Finalize Rangers Transfer

Conor Coady is actively seeking permission from Leicester City to be excluded from the club’s pre-season tour, as he aims to finalize a transfer to Rangers before the week concludes. The 32-year-old defender, a former England international, is eager to join his new team in preparation for the upcoming Champions League qualification match against Panathinaikos, set to take place in Glasgow next week.
Coady has expressed a desire to participate in Leicester’s summer friendlies to boost his fitness levels ahead of the move to Ibrox. However, the transfer has encountered delays as Leicester City management grapples with preparations for their return to the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League. Currently, Leicester is the only club in English football without a manager ahead of the new season, with the appointment of Spaniard Marti Cifuentes facing bureaucratic hurdles.
The former Queens Park Rangers manager is reportedly waiting for visa approval to establish his residence in the East Midlands. This situation has led to speculation that Cifuentes could impede Coady’s exit as he evaluates his defensive options. Nevertheless, Coady remains determined to integrate into Russell Martin’s revamped squad and has been advocating for the completion of his transfer before Leicester departs for a ten-day pre-season training camp in Austria on Wednesday.
Ironically, Leicester has been in search of a new manager throughout the summer, particularly after Russell Martin opted to join Rangers instead of succeeding Ruud van Nistelrooy. Martin is known to hold Coady in high regard, and it is believed that the player is keen to collaborate with him at Ibrox.
As Rangers prepare for their crucial double-header against Panathinaikos, with the first leg approaching in less than a week, the urgency for Coady’s transfer is palpable.
The excitement surrounding Rangers’ recruitment intensified on Tuesday with the acquisition of 21-year-old winger Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday for £2.2 million. Gassama has signed a four-year contract, marking him as the seventh signing in a busy summer of reinforcements for Martin’s squad. Other recent additions include Lyall Cameron, Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Manny Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard, and Nasser Djiga.
Coady is now hopeful for a timely green light from Leicester City, aiming to become Martin’s next significant signing ahead of the pivotal match against Panathinaikos.
This developing story highlights the dynamic nature of the transfer market as clubs prepare for the upcoming season, particularly as they navigate the challenges of player movements and managerial changes.
