After the officer acquired the piece, he gifted it to a civilian, who retained possession until his death. Upon discovering the artwork’s origins, the heirs of this civilian contacted Italian authorities to facilitate its return.

The mosaic, set on a slab of travertine, is not merely an artistic piece but a testament to Roman culture.
