Comedian Chris Ramsey Misses £50,000 Jackpot on Celebrity Catchphrase

Chris Ramsey expressed his frustration after narrowly missing out on the £50,000 jackpot during an episode of the popular game show, Celebrity Catchphrase. The comedian, alongside fellow contestants Heather Small and Kelvin Fletcher, faced a challenging final round where the ultimate prize slipped through his fingers.
The episode aired on ITV, with host Stephen Mulhern guiding the contestants through a series of visual puzzles that require players to “say what they see.” Ramsey, 38, advanced to the final round after performing well throughout the game, but he found himself stumped by a particularly tricky puzzle. With over 20 seconds remaining on the clock, he confronted a riddle that displayed seven ‘1’s on a stage, each holding trophies or wearing first-place ribbons.
Despite his best efforts, including guesses such as “first place,” “first cup,” and “first prize,” Ramsey could not decipher the catchphrase in time. As the clock ran out, he dropped to his knees in disappointment, having missed the jackpot but still securing a commendable £25,000 for his chosen charity, The Customs House, which supports community arts and entertainment in South Tyneside.
When asked by Mulhern how he felt about the close call, Ramsey candidly remarked, “Great, but very annoyed that I’m playing for a theatre and the last one looked like it had something to do with theatre. I’m absolutely fuming, what was it?” The elusive answer to the puzzle turned out to be “Everyone’s a winner,” a phrase that Ramsey found particularly frustrating given the context of the challenge.
His performance contributed a total of £31,400 to The Customs House when combined with the £6,400 he had earned in earlier rounds. The charity aims to promote arts and entertainment within the community, making Ramsey’s contribution all the more significant.
The episode also showcased the difficulties of the games, as Emily Atack struggled with three challenging riddles during her own finale. Competing alongside Brenda Edwards and Martin Kemp, Atack faced a series of visual puzzles that left her perplexed. One such puzzle depicted a man chopping into a cauliflower, revealing cheese inside, while another featured two men shaking hands over a loaf of bread before smashing it with mallets.
Despite her challenges, Atack ultimately secured £2,500 for her charity, bringing her total winnings to £7,200. The episode highlighted not only the entertainment value of Celebrity Catchphrase but also its potential to raise significant funds for charitable causes.
Fans of the show continue to enjoy the unpredictable nature of the puzzles, which often leave even seasoned contestants scratching their heads. Celebrity Catchphrase airs on ITV1 and ITVX, drawing an audience eager to see how celebrities navigate the show’s quirky challenges.
