Digital Jersey is actively shaping the future of the island’s digital economy, as evidenced by the initiatives outlined by CEO Tony Moretta during the organisation’s annual review in February 2025. The plan aims to enhance economic development in the digital sector while fostering innovation across all industries through technology adoption.

The operational blueprint for this year focuses on three vital areas: aiding local tech companies to expand, attracting new businesses, and enhancing the skills of the workforce in technology, particularly in artificial intelligence. According to Moretta, achieving these goals requires a collaborative effort among the engaged tech community and a diverse array of partners, including government bodies and trade associations.

Strengthening Industry and Skills

A significant milestone for Digital Jersey is the growth in its membership, which now exceeds 200 corporate members, the highest number to date. Many of these members participated in the annual review event, showcasing their commitment to using the organisation’s resources.

To better serve local innovators, Digital Jersey has redesigned its support framework for start-ups and scale-ups. This year, the previous Bootcamp initiative has been transformed into the Start and Scale Pathway, tailored to meet specific needs. The programme has successfully facilitated numerous Member Meet Ups, connected innovators with mentors, and introduced select businesses to the Accelerator stream for enhanced growth opportunities.

Another key improvement involves the ProMatch platform, which has expanded to include all sectors of Jersey’s economy, from private to public and charitable organisations. This move aims to boost local procurement and promote the use of home-grown digital expertise, benefiting the wider economy.

In the first half of 2025, Digital Jersey has reported a record number of inquiries from tech entrepreneurs seeking to relocate to the island. Working alongside the government and Locate Jersey, the organisation has attracted top digital talent, diversifying the local economy and enhancing the skill set of the workforce.

A standout initiative is the launch of Impact Jersey, designed to empower innovators to develop digital solutions that address real challenges in the community. Among the achievements this year are grants awarded through the CareTech Challenge to companies like Orchid Connect, Lifestyle, and Good Boost. Additionally, the CXTech programme has been introduced to improve customer experience and operational efficiencies across the island.

Digital Jersey also participated in UK TechWeek in April, which opened doors to networking opportunities with similar organisations. This engagement has led to ongoing discussions with counterparts in the south-west of the UK, allowing for the exchange of ideas on shared challenges and opportunities while positioning Jersey as a digital sandbox.

Future Innovations and Initiatives

Looking ahead, Digital Jersey is committed to further enhancing its digital ecosystem and support for local innovators. Plans include expanding the Start and Scale Programme and publishing an Agritech roadmap in collaboration with local farmers to explore technological advancements in agriculture.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integral to the island’s future, Digital Jersey will release an AI Playbook designed to embed AI into various sectors. Following the success of the data trust pilot scheme, Lifecycle, the organisation aims to explore new applications for data stewardship within Jersey.

The F1 in Schools programme, which has successfully engaged secondary school students, will also be extended to primary schools, promoting STEM learning among younger demographics. Additionally, Digital Jersey plans to collaborate with Jersey Business to enhance the digital skills component of its Better Business grant scheme, aiming to improve overall productivity on the island.

In October, Digital Jersey anticipates hosting its largest-ever TechAwards, which will now feature a new AI category, highlighting the growing importance of technology in the local economy.

With numerous initiatives in the pipeline, Digital Jersey remains focused on nurturing a culture of innovation, fully believing in the island’s potential for growth and improvement. By fostering collaboration and embracing technological advancements, the organisation is poised to lead Jersey into a new era of digital excellence.
