Pride And Prejudice Filming Delayed as Mr. Darcy Welcomes Baby
Producers of the upcoming adaptation of Pride And Prejudice have had to adjust their filming schedule after lead actor Jack Lowden became a father. Lowden’s wife, acclaimed actress Saoirse Ronan, recently gave birth to their first child, prompting the star to take paternity leave. This unexpected development has led to the hiring of lookalikes to stand in for Lowden while filming continues.
The new six-part series, which is being produced for Netflix, features Emma Corrin in the role of Elizabeth Bennet and Olivia Colman as a key supporting character. A source on set confirmed, “It is such lovely news that Jack has become a father and nobody would ever have an issue with him taking paternity leave. But the show must go on, and that means the producers have had to keep on filming.” The source added that the production team is working to ensure that the absence of their leading man does not disrupt the filming process.
Lowden, 35, and Ronan, 31, were married last July in a private ceremony in Edinburgh. Their joyful announcement comes as filming for this much-anticipated adaptation continues, with the cast and crew making necessary adjustments. The production has employed stand-ins to maintain continuity while capturing pivotal scenes.
Additional Austen Adaptations in Production
While Pride And Prejudice faces scheduling challenges, other adaptations of Jane Austen‘s works are also underway. Filming for Sense And Sensibility, another Netflix project, recently began in central London. Despite the warm September weather, actors Daisy Edgar-Jones and Fiona Shaw were spotted in full period attire, ready to bring Austen’s characters to life.
Edgar-Jones portrays Elinor Dashwood, the eldest sister known for her moral strength, while Shaw plays the endearing yet meddlesome Mrs. Jennings. This adaptation marks a celebration of Austen’s 250th birthday, alongside the Pride And Prejudice series.
In a related note, a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights is in production, featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in lead roles. All three adaptations are expected to premiere next year, reflecting a renewed interest in classic literature.
The recent developments highlight both the challenges and excitement surrounding these high-profile projects, showcasing the enduring appeal of Austen’s narratives in modern adaptations. As productions navigate personal milestones and professional commitments, the anticipation for these stories remains high among fans worldwide.
