Casemiro Secures £247,000 Settlement from Sao Paulo After Dispute
Casemiro, the Manchester United midfielder, is set to receive a payment of £247,000 from his former club Sao Paulo following the resolution of a prolonged labour dispute. This agreement concludes a claim related to unpaid employment-related payments dating back to his time in the club’s youth academy.
The dispute, which has been ongoing since 2014, involved various elements including image rights, match-related earnings, bonuses, and holiday entitlements. Initially, the claim was estimated to be around £290,000, but the final settlement amount is now confirmed at £247,000, as reported by Brazilian outlet UOL.
Details of the Settlement
Casemiro will receive the payment in monthly installments. Should Sao Paulo fail to adhere to the payment schedule, the total could rise to £363,000. The regional labour court has approved this settlement, allowing both parties to move forward after years of negotiations.
The timing of this financial boost comes as Casemiro prepares to enter the final six months of his contract with Manchester United, where he will be eligible to negotiate with clubs outside England starting next month. A transfer away from United appeared likely last summer, but the experienced midfielder chose to remain with the team, demonstrating his commitment to manager Ruben Amorim.
Casemiro’s Impact on Manchester United
Casemiro’s performances on the pitch have been exceptional, especially considering United’s demanding schedule. The team typically plays once a week, which has allowed him to deliver strong performances consistently. His stamina will be tested in the coming weeks as United faces fixtures against West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Bournemouth within a 12-day span.
Despite the risk of suspension due to four yellow cards in the Premier League, Casemiro played a full 90 minutes during the recent 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace. Following the match, the team has maintained a solid position in the league, with only one defeat in their last seven Premier League games, placing them eighth in the standings.
A win against West Ham could elevate United to fourth place, a significant milestone as other clubs complete their fixtures in game week 14. During a press conference, Amorim addressed the possibility of entering Champions League qualification spots, stating, “If you have the opportunity, one game per week, you need to go for it.” He emphasized the importance of focusing on each upcoming match to maintain their position in the standings.
As the team navigates the challenges of the season, including the impending absence of players due to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Casemiro’s performance and leadership will be crucial for Manchester United’s ambitions in the league.
