Construction Begins Soon for 130 New Homes in Cossington
Construction is set to commence early next year on a new housing development in Cossington, Leicestershire, which will introduce 130 homes to the area. This initiative received planning approval from the Charnwood Borough Council and will be located on the eastern edge of the village, off Main Street. The project is spearheaded by Bellway East Midlands and is expected to enhance the local community with a variety of residential options.
The development will feature maisonettes, bungalows, and traditional houses, with a commitment to community needs reflected in the design. Of the 130 homes, 52 will be classified as affordable, providing options for low-cost rent or shared ownership. This aspect of the project aims to support individuals and families who may struggle to purchase property outright.
Cossington, a small village situated between Sileby and Syston, currently has a population of fewer than 600 residents. The new housing project is set to occupy 24 acres of land, which will include public open spaces, a children’s play area, and multiple footpaths. Importantly, a public right of way along the western edge of the development will remain intact, preserving access for residents.
As part of the planning, land has also been allocated for the potential expansion of Cossington Primary School, ensuring that educational facilities can grow alongside the increasing population.
In addition to this initiative, another development is underway to the south of Cossington, where nearly 60 homes are being constructed by Charles Church North Midlands, a subsidiary of Persimmon Homes. This highlights the ongoing demand for housing in the region.
Construction on the Bellway site is scheduled to begin in early 2024, with the first homes expected to be available for sale by September 2026. Steve Smith, Sales Director for Bellway East Midlands, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This will be a very desirable neighbourhood in a village location, well planned and thoughtfully laid out with plenty of open space and a variety of high-quality homes to suit a wide range of requirements.”
The development promises to provide modern, energy-efficient homes while addressing the needs of the local community through a balanced approach to housing and public amenities.
