Major Sales Announced as The Original Factory Shop Closes Stores

A significant closing-down sale has commenced at The Original Factory Shop, a popular bargain chain, as it continues to shut multiple locations across the UK. This latest sale, featuring discounts of up to 50%, is taking place at the Spennymoor branch, which is one of several stores affected this year.

Signs announcing the store’s closure and the ongoing discounts are prominently displayed throughout the shop. Customers can find reductions on various items, with men’s and women’s clothing and footwear marked down by 20%. Additionally, handbags and backpacks are available at half price, while toys and games have also seen a 20% discount.

The Original Factory Shop has faced challenges this year, closing multiple branches. According to reports from The Sun, four stores shut down just last week, including those in Wetherby, Horley, Spalding, and Otley. Earlier closures in September affected locations in South Yorkshire and Chard, while the Whitchurch branch in Shropshire also ceased operations at the end of August, featuring a similar 50% closing-down sale.

These closures are part of a broader restructuring effort following the acquisition of The Original Factory Shop by Modella Capital earlier in 2023. Modella is known for taking over struggling retailers and has recently acquired other brands, including Hobbycraft and WHSmith’s high street outlets. Upon taking control, the company quickly initiated a restructuring programme aimed at renegotiating rents across 88 Original Factory Shop locations.

Customers have expressed disappointment over the store closures, highlighting the chain’s affordability. One shopper commented on social media, “A big loss as one of few affordable shops for clothing and household items. We will miss popping in to see what’s on the floor each week! Thanks to the staff who served us with patience.” Another user added, “Useful shop, will be sorry to see it go.”

As The Original Factory Shop navigates this transition, the impact on local communities and shoppers remains significant, emphasizing the challenges facing many high street retailers in a shifting economic landscape.
