Original Factory Shop Launches 50% Off Sales as Store Closures Multiply

The Original Factory Shop has announced significant closures, launching 50% off sales at three additional locations as part of a broader restructuring effort. This move follows the recent announcement of plans to shut down a total of 26 stores across the UK, a decision that has drawn disappointment from loyal customers.
The latest closures include stores in Chard, Somerset; Whitchurch, Shropshire; and another location yet to be confirmed. The Chard store will close permanently on September 7, 2023, and has begun its closing down sale with all items discounted by half. In a heartfelt message on Facebook, the store expressed gratitude to the community and acknowledged the support of its staff.
Customer reactions have been overwhelmingly sympathetic, with many sharing their sadness over the closure. One patron remarked, “I’m absolutely gutted that you’re closing down and wish you all better luck in your next jobs.” Such comments reflect the deep connection many have developed with their local shops.
Details of Store Closures and Sales
The Whitchurch store is also set to close in the coming weeks, with its Facebook announcement highlighting significant discounts: “We’re sadly closing our doors, but that means big savings for you.” Customers have expressed their appreciation for the service they received over the years, with one stating, “Thank you so much for your service throughout the 11 years we’ve lived in Whitchurch.”
The Original Factory Shop has been closing locations throughout 2023 as part of its restructuring strategy under new ownership by Modella Capital, a private equity firm. Modella, known for revitalizing struggling retailers, has focused on negotiating rents at 88 of the chain’s stores.
The decision to initiate a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) was made in late April, allowing for negotiations to avoid insolvency. According to the company, a number of loss-making stores would need to close as part of this process.
