Ayan Mukerji Exits Dhoom 4, Focuses on Brahmastra Sequel

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji has officially departed from the much-anticipated project, Dhoom 4, due to reported creative differences with Yash Raj Films (YRF). The decision comes after discussions surrounding the film’s direction did not align with Mukerji’s vision. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Mukerji’s approach to the film was at odds with the script primarily crafted by Shridhar Raghavan, leading him to withdraw from the project.
Mukerji, known for successful films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Brahmastra, was initially set to direct the latest installment of the popular action franchise, which was expected to feature Ranbir Kapoor in a leading role. Sources indicate that Mukerji felt he lacked sufficient creative control over the screenplay. According to one insider, “Ayan didn’t have much say in the screenplay and didn’t want to embark on another journey of just execution.”
Discussions prior to his exit included conversations with YRF head Aditya Chopra and actor Ranbir Kapoor. Both were supportive of Mukerji’s decision, and the split has been described as “completely amicable.” YRF plans to proceed with Dhoom 4 under a new director, potentially reconsidering casting choices despite Kapoor having previously allocated dates for the film.
Shift in Focus to Brahmastra Sequel
Following his exit from Dhoom 4, Mukerji has redirected his attention to the Brahmastra series, which he refers to as his passion project. He is currently in the development stages of Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev, the sequel to the 2022 fantasy epic. Initially, production was expected to commence sooner, but it is now likely to begin in 2026.
Mukerji aims to enrich the Astraverse with deeper storytelling that integrates elements of mythology, drama, and visually stunning experiences. This evolution reflects his commitment to creating an expansive cinematic universe that resonates with audiences on multiple levels.
As the film industry continues to evolve, Mukerji’s departure from Dhoom 4 marks a significant pivot in his career, emphasizing his dedication to creative integrity and the potential of the Brahmastra franchise. The developments surrounding both projects will be closely watched by fans and industry observers alike.
