Big Brother Star Cameron Cole Injured in Homophobic Attack
Cameron Cole, the winner of the reality television series Big Brother in 2018, sustained facial injuries following a violent homophobic attack while celebrating his birthday. The 26-year-old reality star took to Instagram to share images of his injuries, which included a black eye as well as cuts on his nose and lip.
In his post, Cole recounted how he was targeted with homophobic slurs during a night out before facing an attack when he was alone. He expressed his distress over the incident, stating it has left him feeling vulnerable and shaken.
Details of the Incident
Cole did not disclose the location of the attack but described the experience as both terrifying and disheartening. In his Instagram caption, he wrote, “I had a beautiful birthday surrounded by love, yet still came face-to-face with people who chose hate and violence!” He continued, “It shook me. It made me feel vulnerable in a way no one should ever have to feel, especially not for just existing and being me.”
He expressed gratitude to his friend, known as CARZ, for their support during the ordeal. Cole emphasized that this incident extends beyond personal experience, stating, “It’s about every minority, every marginalized voice, everyone who has been told they don’t belong.” He urged that society must resist divisions created by hate and violence.
Following his post, Cole received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow cast members. One follower expressed disbelief, stating, “Wait wth, why would people do this? You deserve so much better than this.” Another added, “I’m so sorry to read this. Sending you my thoughts.” Former housemate Akeem Griffiths also reached out, offering his support: “Hope you are okay mate. This is awful and just so wrong. Always here for you if you need to talk to someone.”
Cameron’s Journey on Big Brother
Cameron Cole first gained national attention when he became the winner of Big Brother at just 19 years old. His victory was particularly significant as it came during what was thought to be the final series of the show. At the time, he was visibly emotional, stating, “I’m completely and utterly shell shocked. This is the most incredible feeling of my life.”
During his time in the house, Cole came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community, crediting his friend Lewis F for providing him with the support and comfort necessary to share his truth. Cole remarked, “I definitely would never have done it without him. I’d never been so comfortable.”
As he recovers from this recent attack, Cole’s message resonates with many. His conviction to stand against hate and advocate for marginalized voices reflects a broader struggle faced by many in society today.
