Five Reunites in Newcastle, Thrills Fans with Classic Hits
Five, the iconic British boyband, kicked off their reunion tour at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle on March 15, 2024. The concert marked the band’s first performance in the city as a complete group in over 20 years, drawing a capacity crowd eager to relive the nostalgia of the late 90s and early 2000s.
The atmosphere was electric as fans filled the venue, ready to experience the musical magic that Five once brought to the charts. Known for their energetic performances and catchy hits, the group did not disappoint. Their set featured a mix of fan favorites, showcasing the enduring appeal of tracks like “Slam Du Funk,” “Everybody Get Up,” and “We Will Rock You.”
Classic Hits and Live Band Performance
Unlike many of their contemporaries who have opted for backing tracks, Five surprised the audience by performing with a live band. This decision significantly enhanced the overall sound, allowing the group’s hits to resonate with a fresh intensity. The live instrumentation brought a new dimension to their songs, making them feel revitalized and impactful.
The concert began with the powerful “Slam Du Funk,” and the high-energy continued with “If Ya Gettin’ Down.” The audience responded enthusiastically, singing along to every word. Notably, Scott’s impressive vocal performance during “Until The Time is Through” stood out, demonstrating the group’s talent and growth over the years.
Despite their reputation in the late 90s as the “bad boys of pop,” Five showcased a polished production. The concert featured sophisticated visuals, including dynamic camera work and large screens that created a vibrant music video atmosphere for each song. Long-time fans were treated to lesser-known tracks like “Lay All Your Lovin’ on Me” and “Partyline,” adding depth to the setlist.
A Memorable Night for Fans and Band
In a heartfelt moment, J reflected on the journey of the band, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to perform together again. “A few years ago, I never thought I’d be back on stage with these guys,” he said, acknowledging the significance of the reunion for both the band and their fans.
The camaraderie among the band members was palpable, and their connection with the audience transformed the night into a communal celebration of nostalgia and music. Fans of all ages came together, united by their shared memories and love for Five’s music, creating an unforgettable experience.
With an enthusiastic response from the crowd, this reunion marks a potential new chapter for Five. Following their successful performance in Newcastle, the band is set to participate in the Mighty Hoopla festival next year.
As the night came to a close, it was clear that Five still possesses the ability to captivate audiences, proving they can rock just as hard as they did two decades ago. Their reunion tour not only revived cherished memories but also hinted at the exciting possibilities that lie ahead for the band.
