Igalo Ends Kom’s Unbeaten Streak with 2-1 Victory
The football club Igalo halted Kom’s impressive unbeaten streak on March 15, 2024, with a decisive 2-1 victory in the final match of the autumn season’s round in the Montenegrin Second Football League. This match, along with another between Iskra and Berane, completed the 19th round of the league, although two postponed matches from earlier rounds will conclude the first half of the season on Wednesday.
Igalo’s victory came as a surprise, breaking Kom’s undefeated run that had lasted for exactly nine matches. The home team took the lead in the 15th minute when Jovan Vujovic capitalized on a significant mistake by Kom’s goalkeeper, Ozava. Vujovic’s assist found Pavle Pićurić, who easily converted it into the opening goal.
Despite the early setback, Kom, known for their resilience, equalized just before halftime. In the 38th minute, Taišija Oicu scored from a corner, leveling the match at 1-1 and giving the visitors renewed hope.
The second half, however, saw Igalo reasserting their dominance. Just three minutes in, Nikola Kosać made a powerful run down the left flank, delivering a low cross that found Nihad Balić. Balić scored with precision, securing a crucial win for Igalo.
In another match, Iskra and Berane played to an exciting 2-2 draw. Berane initially took the lead in the 25th minute through a goal from Srđan Bošković. It seemed they were on track for a victory, but Iskra rallied back with two goals from Sava Milić in the 59th and 84th minutes, turning the tide in their favor.
The drama continued late in the game when Vladimir Popović was fouled in the penalty area, prompting referee Luka Pejovic to award a penalty. Bošković converted the penalty, securing a point for Berane with a final score of 2-2.
As the autumn season approaches its conclusion, the league standings reflect a competitive atmosphere. Otrant leads the table with 38 points, followed closely by Grbalj with 36 points. Kom sits in third place with 33 points, while Igalo, after their victory, has improved their standing to 20 points.
The results from the latest matches are as follows:
– Podgorica – Lovćen: 1-0
– Grbalj – Rudar: 2-1
– Otrant Olimpik – Internacional: 2-1
– Igalo – Kom: 2-1
– Iskra – Berane: 2-2
The current league table shows Otrant at the top with 18 matches played, followed by Grbalj and Kom. The competition remains fierce as teams prepare for the upcoming second half of the season, which will feature crucial matches that could shift the standings significantly.
