Chef Reveals Princess Diana’s Overused Dish and Healthy Habits

Princess Diana, known for her commitment to healthy eating, had a particular dish she eventually requested her chef to stop preparing. The late Princess of Wales, who enjoyed the finest cuisine during her time at Kensington Palace, grew weary of salmon after it was repeatedly served to her at various events.

In a recent YouTube video, former personal chef Darren McGrady recounted how Diana expressed her frustration with the frequency of salmon on her plate. He explained that the repetition was due in part to charities and hosts often inquiring about her favorite meals when planning events.

“If she was going out for lunch, the charities would call the palace and say, ‘What does the Princess like? What are her favourite foods?'” McGrady revealed. After receiving a call from the palace asking about Diana’s current preferences, he mentioned her love for salmon. However, the Princess soon made her feelings clear.

“I’m starving, please tell me it’s not salmon. What is it with salmon and you chefs? Everywhere I go these days, everyone’s serving salmon,” she reportedly told McGrady, illustrating her growing aversion to the dish. Acknowledging his oversight, McGrady promptly adjusted the menu to include a wider variety of options.

In addition to her dislike for repetitive meals, Diana was dedicated to a nutritious diet. Salmon, known for its high content of omega-3 fatty acids and protein, remains a popular health food today. Despite the salmon saga, McGrady noted that Diana maintained her focus on healthy eating, avoiding beef unless her sons were home and rarely consuming pork.

As McGrady transitioned from cooking for Queen Elizabeth II, he adapted his culinary style to accommodate Diana’s dietary preferences. “She was into healthy eating, so we never had beef on the menu,” he shared. The chef typically prepared chicken, fish, or vegetarian dishes, with lamb appearing only occasionally for guests.

Diana’s humorous approach to balancing her diet and fitness was evident in her playful remarks. “You take care of all the fats and I’ll take care of all the carbs at the gym,” she would say, demonstrating her understanding of nutrition and exercise.

The conversation surrounding Diana’s legacy continues, as former private secretary Patrick Jephson recently discussed the lessons she imparted to her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. He stated that studying her life would provide them with valuable examples and warnings.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton has also reflected on Diana’s enduring influence, suggesting she would have played a mediating role between her sons during their current rift. “Diana always used to say she had two boys for a reason – the younger would be there to support the older in the lonely task as future King,” he noted.

As new insights into Diana’s life and habits emerge, her legacy continues to resonate, reminding us of her love for healthy living and the personal connections she fostered with those around her.
