FDA Recalls 57,000 Target Burrito Meals Due to Shrimp Allergy Risk
More than 57,000 burrito meals sold at Target have been recalled due to undeclared shrimp presence, posing a serious allergy risk. The meals, produced by One Frozen, specifically the Good & Gather Southwest-Style Burrito Bowl Blend, were flagged for this issue, as shellfish allergies can lead to life-threatening reactions, including anaphylaxis.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the affected burrito bowls were distributed to Target locations across all 50 states starting from April 17, 2025. While no illnesses related to this recall have been reported, consumers are advised to check their freezers for the impacted items.
The recalled products come in 12-ounce red packaging labeled as “steam in a bag,” with a Best Used By date of August 24, 2026. Customers who find any of the affected burrito bowls, identified by the lot codes 5055-1, L5055-2, L5055-3, L5055-4, L5055-5, and L5055-6, should contact Target guest relations for a full refund.
This incident is the latest in a series of recalls affecting Target. Last month, over 12,000 cookies were pulled from shelves due to concerns they might contain wood fragments. The recalled items, Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, were produced by Give and Go and distributed to Target stores in 21 states, including New York, Massachusetts, and Virginia.
As the retail giant navigates these challenges, consumers are reminded to remain vigilant regarding product recalls, especially those involving potential allergens. The FDA continues to monitor the situation, emphasizing the importance of accurate labeling to prevent health risks.
