Moyes Challenges Barry After Scoring First Goal for Everton
David Moyes has issued a stern reminder to striker Thierno Barry following his first goal for Everton FC. Barry scored during Everton’s commanding 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest at Hill Dickinson Stadium on December 7, 2025. The win marks Everton’s fourth triumph in their last five matches, propelling them to sixth in the Premier League standings.
Moyes highlighted Barry’s achievement but quickly emphasized the need for consistency. The 23-year-old forward, who joined Everton from Villarreal, had struggled to find the net, failing to score in his first 16 appearances for the club. He finally broke his drought against Nottingham Forest, doubling Everton’s lead just before half-time after a Nikola Milenkovic own goal opened the scoring.
Despite Barry’s elation at finding the back of the net, Moyes made it clear that one goal is not enough to secure his place in the starting lineup. In his post-match press conference, he stated, “He’ll not be able to play another six games and only score one goal! I have to say, Beto is beginning to show more in what he’s doing. Barry will need to keep playing well if he’s going to stay in the team.”
Moyes’ warning serves to remind Barry that competition for places is fierce. Beto, who scored eight goals for Everton last season, has struggled this campaign, netting only once in the current Premier League season. The coach underscored the importance of both strikers finding form to bolster the team’s offensive options.
The manager’s strategy has been to give Barry more playing time in order to acclimate to the Premier League, while also expressing hope for Beto’s return to form. “The choice was to give Thierno a run in the team and get used to the Premier League,” Moyes explained. “But we’re really hoping Beto comes back into form as well.”
If Everton can maximize the potential of both strikers, it could significantly enhance their attacking capabilities as they aim to climb the Premier League table. Moyes’ commitment to fostering competition within the squad may prove essential as the season progresses, ensuring that every player remains at the top of their game.
As the Toffees continue their campaign, the focus will be on maintaining momentum and securing vital points in the league. Fans will be eager to see how Barry responds to Moyes’ challenge and whether Beto can regain his scoring touch in the coming weeks.
