Nicola Sturgeon Reveals Her Ultimate Hangover Cure on Podcast

Former First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, recently shared her go-to remedy for hangovers during an appearance on the podcast “Comfort Eating with Grace Dent“. Sturgeon, known for her candidness, described a classic Scottish combination as the ultimate cure following a night of indulgence.
Sturgeon expressed her fondness for a can of Irn-Bru, Scotland’s iconic soft drink, alongside a roll filled with square sausage. She confidently stated, “I can say from experience, and it’s true, it is one of, if not the best cure for a hangover known to man or woman.” Sturgeon emphasized the visual appeal of Irn-Bru, highlighting its vibrant colour as part of the comfort it brings after a night out.
In the podcast, Sturgeon also reminisced about her culinary skills, admitting that her cooking repertoire is limited. She revealed, “The only dish that I’m capable of cooking with any aptitude is beans on toast with grated cheese over the beans and Branston pickle.” This simple meal served as a comfort food for her, especially during her time in office when she often found herself eating hotel cuisine.
Reflections on Scottish Cuisine
Sturgeon shared her thoughts on the “munchie box,” a popular Scottish takeaway option filled with greasy delights, including donner kebab meat and battered goods. She remarked on Scotland’s deep-fried culinary traditions, suggesting that the affinity for such comfort foods stems from a need for indulgence. “Scotland is a wonderful place, but I suspect that this love for stodgy deep-fried food has probably come from comfort eating,” she noted.
Despite her playful critiques of the heavy fare, Sturgeon acknowledged the quality of Scottish fish, stating, “But underneath that batter is one of the greatest food products to come out of Scotland – our fish.”
Upcoming Literary Ventures
Beyond her culinary confessions, Sturgeon revealed that she is working on her debut novel, following the success of her memoir, which has made its way to the top of bestseller lists. She shared her hopes to develop an idea she has in mind, indicating that making her intentions public would motivate her to start writing in earnest.
The former First Minister’s blend of personal anecdotes and reflections on Scottish food culture provides a glimpse into her life beyond politics, showcasing her relatable side and love for Scotland’s culinary heritage. As she navigates her post-political career, Sturgeon’s revelations resonate with many, offering both humour and insight into her personal tastes.
