Trump Endorses Sydney Sweeney’s Ad, Boosting American Eagle Stock

President Donald Trump has shown his support for Sydney Sweeney‘s controversial advertisement for American Eagle, which has resulted in a significant increase in the company’s stock value. Following Trump’s endorsement, the stock surged nearly 25 percent, reaching $13.32 per share, bringing the brand’s market capitalization to approximately $2.3 billion.
The advertisement, titled “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” features Sweeney discussing the appeal of the brand’s denim. In the ad, released on July 23, 2023, Sweeney playfully quips, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring… My jeans are blue.” The promotional campaign sparked controversy due to its reference to Sweeney’s appearance, which aligns with certain beauty standards.
Trump publicly endorsed the actress and her ad in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on August 4, 2023. He described Sweeney’s advertisement as the “HOTTEST” and praised the sales performance of the jeans, stating, “Go get ‘em Sydney!” His comments came after the White House defended the advertisement amid public scrutiny.
The controversy deepened when it was revealed that Sweeney has been registered with the Republican Party since 2024, according to voter registration records confirmed by PinkNews and other media outlets. Trump’s support for Sweeney’s ad not only aligns with his political views but also reflects his ongoing criticism of brands he perceives as adopting “woke” agendas, referencing other companies like Jaguar and Bud Light.
In his post, Trump took aim at various celebrities, including singer Taylor Swift, whom he described as “woke” and expressed his disdain for her political endorsements during the last presidential race. He remarked, “The tide has seriously turned – being woke is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”
The impact of Trump’s endorsement on American Eagle’s stock reflects a growing trend where celebrity endorsements intersect with political affiliations, influencing consumer behavior and market performance. The company has yet to issue a statement regarding Trump’s support, but it emphasized that the campaign is centered on celebrating individual narratives and body positivity, stating, “Great jeans flatter everyone.”
As the conversation surrounding this advertisement continues, Sweeney and American Eagle remain in the spotlight, navigating both the commercial success of the ad and the political implications of celebrity endorsements in today’s polarized environment.
