Bestselling Author Jasper Fforde to Speak at Newbury Library Tonight
A literary event awaits book enthusiasts this evening at the Newbury Library in the Wharf, where acclaimed author Jasper Fforde will discuss his imaginative works and diverse writing career. The event, which runs from 19:00 to 20:30, offers a unique opportunity for fans to engage with Fforde and explore his genre-defying fiction.
Fforde, a British writer residing in Wales, describes his style as “absurdist fiction.” He began his professional journey in the film industry, contributing to notable films such as GoldenEye, The Mask of Zorro, and Entrapment. In 1988, driven by a desire to share his own stories, he transitioned to writing, producing numerous unpublished novels before developing his distinctive voice, which he likens to “the warring factions of Literary and Absurd.”
His breakthrough came with the publication of his debut novel, The Eyre Affair, by Hodder & Stoughton in July 2001. Fforde is best known for the Thursday Next series, a literary detective adventure that showcases his clever wordplay and imaginative narratives. He has also authored two books in the Nursery Crime series, two in the satirical Shades of Grey series, and four in The Last Dragonslayer series, each marked by his characteristic creativity.
Following an interview with Jasper Fforde, the evening will feature a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the author. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of his books, making it a memorable occasion for fans and literary enthusiasts alike.
Tickets for this engaging event are priced at £5. For further information or to address booking queries, attendees are encouraged to inquire at the library.
