Ceramicus Pottery Exhibition Opens at Allen Gallery This October
A new exhibition featuring the works of the Ceramicus collective will be held at the Allen Gallery in Alton from October 4 to 31, 2025. This free event will showcase a captivating array of pottery created by ten talented members of the group, representing a variety of styles, techniques, and skills in clay.
The exhibition will highlight the diverse methods employed by these artisans, including traditional throwing, hand-building, and sculpting. Visitors can expect to see a wide range of clay works that reflect the artists’ mastery of various glazing and firing techniques. Among these are the ancient practice of wood-burning kilns that produce natural ash glazes, along with Japanese raku methods and traditional gas-fired processes. The exhibition will also feature modern approaches utilizing electrically heated, electronically controlled kilns that create oxidising conditions.
The Ceramicus group, based in both Hampshire and Surrey, is renowned for its dedication to exploring the full potential of ceramic art. This exhibition serves as a platform for the artists to not only display their creations but also to sell them, allowing visitors to take home a piece of this unique craftsmanship.
In addition to the artworks, the exhibition will provide an opportunity for attendees to engage with the artists, gaining insights into their creative processes and the techniques they employ. The Allen Gallery, known for its commitment to celebrating local artistic talent, is an ideal venue for this showcase.
For those interested in exploring the world of ceramics, this exhibition promises to be an enriching experience. The blending of traditional and modern techniques will be a highlight, offering a comprehensive view of contemporary pottery practices.
