Fashion Show Revives Podgorica’s Heritage at Senior Fest 2025
The Senior Fest 2025 culminated in a vibrant fashion show titled “See You in Radovče,” which celebrated the rich history and culture of Podgorica. Held in the heart of the city at Trg nezavisnosti, the event not only showcased fashion but also paid homage to the former Radovče restaurant terrace, a significant local landmark. The runway featured models from the Home for the Elderly in Podgorica and the Cultural Art Society “Treće doba,” bringing together community members of all ages.
The evening’s festivities continued with the beloved repertoire of the KIC pop choir, while the group Legende entertained visitors across generations. Recognizing significant contributions to elder care, awards were presented in three categories: institutions, companies, and individuals.
Honoring Contributions to Elder Care
One of the standout awards was given to the Red Cross of Montenegro, which has dedicated over two decades to providing services for the elderly throughout the country. Currently, they support more than 1,000 seniors across 16 municipalities. The award was presented to General Secretary Jelena Dubak by Senior Fest Director Vesna Radojević. Dubak expressed gratitude on behalf of the volunteers and colleagues, emphasizing the importance of their work with and for the elderly.
In addition, the Montenegrin telecommunications company MTEL received recognition for its commitment to educating retirees, having engaged over 500 seniors in various programs. Upon accepting the award, Ljiljana Brnović affirmed the company’s ongoing support for such initiatives.
The Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, was also honored for his strong advocacy for the elderly. Under his administration, free public transportation for pensioners was established, addressing a long-standing request from the community. During his speech, Mujović highlighted the invaluable contributions of seniors to the city, stating, “Your years and experience are not a burden to us, but our wealth and value.”
Acknowledging Local Heroes
A special award for outstanding service to the elderly was presented to Balša Alibabić, an employee of the city’s Social Welfare Secretariat. Alibabić announced plans to open a new office dedicated to pensioners and older individuals, further enhancing support for this demographic.
The event also recognized Snežana Burzan, founder and manager of the KIC pop choir, for her unwavering support of the Senior Fest. Burzan noted that the choir has been performing for the elderly for over eight years, having held their first concert in the Home for the Elderly at the Old Airport.
The Senior Fest also featured a vintage car exhibition and a diverse cultural program held in Njegoš Park and Trg nezavisnosti throughout the weekend. Organized by the NGO Montenegro Education and the City of Podgorica, this year’s festival received support from numerous partners, further solidifying its role in celebrating the heritage and contributions of the elderly in Montenegro.
The Senior Fest 2025 was not just an event; it was a heartfelt tribute to the past and a commitment to the future of elder care in the community.
