Montenegro’s police force has revoked residency for 19 foreign nationals as part of a wider initiative aimed at enhancing law enforcement within the country. This action was taken under the operation dubbed “Foreigner,” which focuses on regulating the legal status of foreign citizens residing and working in Montenegro.
In addition to the cancelled residency permits, the authorities initiated the cessation of temporary residency for five other individuals. The Police Administration reported that a total of 90 misdemeanor charges were filed, alongside 23 decisions regarding the return of specific individuals. Notably, three individuals were forcibly removed from the country, while an additional three were expelled.
Ongoing Enforcement Actions
Authorities have emphasized that this operation is part of intensified efforts to monitor the legality of foreign nationals’ movements and activities across Montenegro. The police executed 143 enforcement measures targeting foreign nationals during this operation. Since the beginning of 2025, there have been significant statistics reflecting the ongoing efforts: 8,672 misdemeanor charges have been filed, and 1,333 return decisions have been issued.
Furthermore, the data reveals that 170 individuals have been forcibly removed from the country, while 149 foreign nationals have been expelled from Montenegro. The continuous enforcement underscores the government’s commitment to regulating the presence of foreign citizens within its borders.
The Police Administration’s actions indicate a proactive approach to managing the legal status of foreign nationals, reinforcing the need for compliance with local laws and regulations. As the situation develops, authorities are likely to maintain their rigorous enforcement stance to ensure the lawful conduct of foreign residents and visitors alike.
