Montenegro Urged to Implement Visa Regime for Israel Amid Rising Tensions
The Palestine Solidarity Movement has called on the authorities in Montenegro to demonstrate consistency in its immigration policies by introducing a visa regime for Israeli citizens. This statement comes in response to Montenegro’s recent decision to require visas for Turkish citizens, as the movement argues that similar action is warranted regarding Israel due to its treatment of the Palestinian people.
The group highlighted the need for Montenegro to take a stand against what they describe as genocide perpetrated by Israel. They pointed to an increase in reports from citizens detailing inappropriate and violent behavior by some Israeli tourists. One incident involved an Israeli national who physically assaulted a Montenegrin tour guide while attempting to board a cable car at Lovćen. The guide sustained head injuries and required hospitalization.
According to the Palestine Solidarity Movement, the severity of this incident was notably reported first by the Israeli media, raising concerns about the silence and selectivity of local institutions and media in Montenegro regarding such matters. They emphasized that this is not an isolated occurrence but part of a growing trend of verbal assaults and provocations by Israeli tourists towards locals expressing solidarity with Palestine.
The movement noted that there have been numerous instances of aggressive behavior, including public disturbances and disrespect for local regulations in tourist areas. They argue that this selective enforcement of rules creates a double standard. While some nationalities face collective condemnation and administrative penalties, others, such as Israeli citizens, seemingly evade similar scrutiny despite their government’s actions in violation of international law.
In light of these developments, the Palestine Solidarity Movement is demanding an immediate and impartial response from the relevant authorities. They seek the prosecution of all individuals responsible for acts of violence, irrespective of their nationality. Furthermore, they are advocating for the implementation of a visa regime for Israeli citizens as a measure of political consistency and moral responsibility.
Additionally, they are calling for a reform of Montenegro’s immigration policy to ensure equal treatment of all foreigners, aligned with the conduct of their home countries regarding international law. The movement asserts that the current approach is morally inconsistent and unacceptable.
