Epping MP Chris Philp Celebrates Ruling on Migrant Housing

The recent ruling regarding the use of hotels for housing migrants has brought a sense of relief to residents of Epping, according to local Member of Parliament Chris Philp. The decision marks the end of a contentious struggle between the community and their government over the safety and wellbeing of local families.
Philp expressed that the situation should never have escalated to this point, highlighting the community’s battle against what he described as the government’s disregard for local concerns. He criticized the Labour Party, asserting that they had attempted to impose migrant housing on communities without addressing the worries of residents, parents, and local officials.
Community Concerns Over Migrant Housing
The MP raised alarms about a broader trend across the country, where local communities are witnessing an influx of migrants into previously vacant hotels. According to Philp, this practice has created turmoil and anxiety, as families feel their safety is compromised. He stated, “Everywhere, communities are being turned upside down,” referencing the growing unease felt in various towns.
Philp pointed to the Labour Party’s policies, accusing them of failing to manage migration effectively. He claimed that Labour’s actions have led to increased crime, strained public services, and heightened taxes for families in areas such as Epping, Stoke, Hull, and Dover. He emphasized that this situation stems from Labour’s decision to relax immigration controls, resulting in a lack of deterrents and the reopening of facilities like the Bell Hotel as a migrant housing site.
Political Responses and Proposed Solutions
The Conservative MP firmly stated that it is essential for the government to take decisive action regarding illegal immigration. He proposed the introduction of a Deportation Bill aimed at enforcing automatic deportation for all illegal arrivals, disapplying the Human Rights Act in immigration cases, and restoring border controls. Philp believes that such measures are crucial for communities to regain their sense of security.
He remarked, “When we stop the crossings, we stop the hotels,” underscoring his view that effective immigration policies would alleviate the pressure on local communities. He urged for immediate action to protect towns like Epping from being caught in similar predicaments in the future.
Philp concluded by asserting that the Conservative Party possesses the necessary plan and determination to address these pressing issues, while criticizing Labour for what he views as a failure to deliver sustainable solutions. He called for a united front to ensure that every illegal arrival is addressed and that communities can feel safe in their own neighborhoods without having to confront their government.
