Obidient Movement Calls on Jonathan to Support Obi for 2027

The Obidient Movement has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to endorse Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential elections, rather than contesting against him in the upcoming 2027 election. This appeal follows a private meeting between Obi and Jonathan last Thursday, where discussions focused on the current state of Nigeria.
Obi shared images from the meeting on his social media account, referring to Jonathan as “a very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader.” While there is speculation about Jonathan’s potential candidacy in 2027, he has not made any formal announcement. The Obidient Movement’s appeal emphasizes the need for fairness and national progress, urging Jonathan to support Obi’s vision for the future of Nigeria.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, stated that both men are respected leaders, but emphasized Obi as the preferred choice for many Nigerians seeking change. “They have been friends for a long time. The meeting was for them to fraternize and discuss how to rescue Nigeria,” Tanko remarked. He added that it would be commendable for Jonathan to continue his role as a respected elder statesman.
After the meeting, Obi attended the 3rd Annual National Summit of one of the Obidient support groups and the public presentation of a book titled “The Flame of Hope: Igniting the Soul of a Nation,” authored by Emeka Patrick Ude. During his speech at the summit, Obi reiterated the urgent need for comprehensive electoral reforms, which he described as the foundation of a functional democracy.
He expressed that these reforms are essential for promoting inclusive growth, creating job opportunities, and unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s youth. Additionally, Obi highlighted the critical areas of development, including health, education, and poverty alleviation. “The journey to a better nation is never easy, but with faith, resilience, focus, and unity of purpose, we can birth a country that reflects the values of justice, equity, greatness, and shared prosperity,” Obi stated.
Obi also urged young Nigerians to become actively involved in the electoral process and maintain their belief in a new Nigeria. He commended the CPO group for their unwavering commitment to these causes and expressed gratitude to Ude for his literary contribution, which he deemed inspirational and a call to action for those who wish to see Nigeria thrive.
The developments signal a crucial moment in Nigeria’s political landscape as the nation prepares for the forthcoming elections. The Obidient Movement’s push for Jonathan’s support could significantly shape the dynamics of the 2027 presidential race.
