Osun Governor Adeleke Affirms Loyalty to PDP Ahead of Convention

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has publicly denied ongoing rumors regarding his potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Addressing these claims, Adeleke emphasized his commitment to the PDP, particularly as he prepares for the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for October 15-16, 2023.
Speaking after the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee for the convention, Adeleke stated that he has no intention of leaving the PDP either now or in the foreseeable future. He serves as the Deputy Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee and has been actively involved in preparations to ensure the event’s success.
“I remain a loyal member of the PDP,” Adeleke asserted. “Some people say I might be planning to join the APC because I have friends there or have been seen attending their events. I’m a very civilised person. If I have friends in the APC and they invite me to a wedding or social function, I will attend. That doesn’t mean I’m joining them.”
Adeleke addressed the party’s internal challenges, expressing confidence that the PDP will emerge from its current difficulties stronger than before. He noted the importance of unity and organization within the party, stating, “Our focus is on unity, organisation and success. By God’s grace, our convention will be a great success, and the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength.”
The governor’s remarks come amid a backdrop of political maneuvering in Nigeria, where party loyalties are often tested. He acknowledged the reality of defection in politics, saying, “Many people from other parties are also defecting, that’s politics. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow, but everyone has the right to do as they wish.”
As preparations for the convention continue, Adeleke’s reassurance aims to bolster confidence among party members and supporters. His role in the convention’s organization underscores his commitment to the PDP’s future, aligning with his vision for a unified and successful party.
