Predatory Paedophile Sentenced to 14 Years for Exploiting Teen

A 43-year-old man, Shaun Fox, has been sentenced to over 14 years in prison for a series of sexual offences involving a 14-year-old girl. The sentencing took place at Cambridge Crown Court on August 13, where the judge described Fox as “predatory and determined.”
Fox, who resides in Swanspool, Ravensthorpe, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including breaching a sexual harm prevention order, distributing an indecent photograph, and engaging in sexual communication with a minor. He received a total sentence of 14 years and six months and will remain on the sex offenders register for life. Additionally, he has been issued a lifetime sexual harm prevention order and a ten-year restraining order.
The offences began on May 18 when Fox, posing as a 17-year-old boy, contacted the victim through Instagram. Under a pseudonym, he solicited inappropriate photographs and suggested that she touch herself inappropriately. His actions escalated to sending three child abuse videos when the victim’s mother intervened by posing as her daughter.
Upon learning of Fox’s activities, the victim’s mother took proactive measures to protect her daughter. She engaged in a WhatsApp conversation with him and collected evidence of his predatory behaviour. This ultimately led to Fox’s arrest on July 1. Cambridgeshire Police tracked him down using an email address linked to his Instagram account and secured CCTV footage of him purchasing a mobile phone and top-up from a local Sainsbury’s.
During police questioning, Fox claimed to feel like a 17-year-old trapped in a 43-year-old’s body. Judge Grey condemned this statement as “self-serving rubbish,” emphasizing that Fox had meticulously planned his actions and displayed no genuine remorse for his victims.
In his remarks, Judge Grey stated, “Nothing here was out of character; you made a plan, and you executed it. Your regret, in my opinion, is that you were caught.” He further noted the profound emotional impact on the victim and her family, highlighting how their lives had been irrevocably altered by Fox’s actions.
Detective Constable Jon Edwards, who led the investigation, commented on the severity of Fox’s offences, stating that the custodial sentence reflects the danger he poses. Edwards expressed admiration for the bravery of the victim and her family throughout the investigation, acknowledging the nightmare they endured.
The case underscores the importance of safeguarding children in the digital age, as predators continue to exploit online platforms to target vulnerable individuals.
