Inverness Veterinary Centre Opens Doors for Public Exploration
A new veterinary research centre in Inverness is welcoming the public to explore its innovative facilities on November 13, 2024. The Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre (RAVIC) at Inverness Campus will host an open day from 10:00 to 15:00, allowing visitors to engage with various activities centered around animal health.
During the open day, titled “People, Pets and Pathogens,” attendees will have the opportunity to view the centre’s advanced post-mortem facilities. Veterinarians from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) will be present to discuss their critical role in diagnosing animal diseases and monitoring health threats. Visitors can also participate in a demonstration of CPR techniques specifically designed for dogs, facilitated by Scottish Vet Referrals.
The event promises to be informative for aspiring veterinarians and scientists, with staff from SRUC’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences available to discuss educational pathways and career opportunities. Attendees will also gain insight into the ongoing research into antimicrobial resistance in pets, a pioneering study that holds potential benefits for both human and animal health.
In addition to these educational experiences, experts in agriculture will be on hand to showcase industry innovations. Those interested in aquaculture can learn about gill health and the integration of artificial intelligence in veterinary practices.
RAVIC was officially inaugurated by Princess Anne in March 2024, representing a significant investment of £12.5 million aimed at fostering innovation and job creation in Scotland’s health, agriculture, and aquaculture sectors. The centre was developed with support from the European Regional Development Fund and the Scottish Funding Council, marking a strategic effort to address challenges faced by these vital industries.
This open day not only highlights the centre’s commitment to advancing veterinary science but also aims to engage the public in understanding the complexities of animal health and the interconnectedness of human and animal diseases.
