Budućnost Voli Aims High for New Basketball Season

As the new basketball season approaches, the president of Budućnost Voli, Dragan Bokan, outlined the club’s ambitious goals during the annual “Blue Night” event. The gathering took place at the MTEL Hall Moraca in Podgorica, where Bokan expressed the team’s determination to achieve victories, trophies, and create a new chapter in the club’s history.
Bokan emphasized the importance of unity within the team, stating, “Budućnost Voli is not just a club; it is a team that breathes as one, a hall that pulsates with the rhythm of its fans, and a community that believes we can achieve the greatest results together.” This season, Budućnost Voli is set to compete in both the ABA League and the Eurocup, with a particular focus on the latter, as they introduce new players to their roster.
Several key additions have bolstered the squad, including Ukrainian point guard Oleksandr Kovlijar, American combo guard Skajlar Mejs, and French forward Aksel Butej. The team also secured centers James Thompson from the United States and Jeri Buciél from France. Returning players include point guard Jogi Ferel and forward Juvan Morgan, while notable departures include MVP of the ABA League last season, Mckinley Wright, and center Alen Omić.
Under the guidance of head coach Andrej Žakelja, the coaching staff has also seen a significant change. Igor Đaletic has returned to Budućnost after seven years in Japan, where he previously served as an assistant coach and led the team to two Montenegrin titles in 2016 and 2017. Bokan expressed confidence in his players, stating, “This is a team that has the strength to inspire, the talent to surprise, and the heart to fight until the last moment.”
The club also unveiled its new jerseys during the event, showcasing the fresh look that the team will sport throughout the season.
Bokan acknowledged the support from various partners and sponsors, highlighting the importance of their contributions to the club’s success. He extended gratitude to organizations such as Stadion, Erste Bank, and Montenegrin Telekom, stating, “Our strength comes not only from our fans but also from friends and partners who have always stood by us.” He also thanked the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajic, for his unwavering support and recognition of the importance of sports in the country.
The season opener for Budućnost will take place on October 2, 2023, when they face the London Lions in the Eurocup. In their first match of the ABA League, scheduled for October 5, they will host Subotica’s Spartak. Bokan reinforced the club’s commitment to community, asserting that “every basket, every rebound, and every victory belongs to all of you.”
With the anticipation building, Budućnost Voli aims to not only win games but also foster a sense of togetherness and pride among its supporters. As the new season unfolds, the club remains focused on making a lasting impact, both on and off the court.
