Eddie Hearn Confirms Joshua’s February Fight, Dismisses December Rumors

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua will not be fighting in Africa this December, with a more realistic date set for February. Hearn, speaking to Sky Sports, emphasized that while there has been speculation about a comeback fight in locations like Ghana and Nigeria, no agreements have been made.
Hearn addressed the swirling rumors, stating, “No, definitely not [fight in Africa agreed]. There’s all kinds of rumours swirling around about Anthony Joshua at the moment.” He explained that, despite discussions about a potential fight this year, the likelihood of a December match is diminishing.
As Joshua begins his training camp, Hearn highlighted the importance of preparing the boxer for his return. “February is the solid date for an AJ fight,” he noted. “Now, whether that’s a second fight or whether that’s his first fight back, we’ll see.” He acknowledged the challenges Joshua faces after being out of the ring for approximately a year and a half.
The prospect of a fight back in a high-profile arena adds pressure, and Hearn believes a preliminary fight could benefit Joshua. “We talked about the kind of blessing that would be a run-out fight without those kind of pressures,” Hearn explained. “But he’s never really had the opportunity to do that.”
In addition to the potential African venues, Hearn mentioned ongoing discussions with Turki Al-Sheikh regarding a multi-fight deal that could also include a highly anticipated match against Tyson Fury. Hearn expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating, “There are a lot of options. But I can tell you now, the main thing is that he’s back in full training camp and his mind is fully focused on a return to the ring.”
Hearn also discussed Joshua’s determination to face Fury, emphasizing that the fight is one both men desire. “AJ wants it bad,” he said. “I feel like Fury is the only person he has really talked about with venom. About wanting to do a job on him.” He acknowledged that while Joshua is eager to face Fury, the timing and negotiations must align.
Reflecting on the significance of a potential matchup between the two British heavyweights, Hearn stated, “If they both leave the sport without fighting each other, we’ll always kick ourselves, and it will be a big shame.” He urged that the decision ultimately rests with Fury and his team.
As Joshua continues to prepare for his return to the ring, fans will be eagerly awaiting confirmation of his next opponent and the details surrounding the February fight. Hearn’s comments provide a clearer picture of Joshua’s path forward, reinforcing the notion that while speculation may abound, the focus remains on an effective comeback plan for one of boxing’s biggest names.
