The testimony of former Chief of the Podgorica Security Center, Milan Vujanović, was notably absent during the latest session of the Inquiry Committee in the Montenegro Assembly. Vujanović could not attend due to health issues, as confirmed by his submission of medical documentation to the committee.

This session was focused on the ongoing investigation into the so-called “black troikas” case, a significant matter concerning political and security affairs in Montenegro. Vujanović had been slated to discuss details related to the murder of journalist Duško Jovanović. He previously provided key insights during trials in 2005 and 2014, making his absence particularly noteworthy.

Committee Members Respond to Vujanović’s Absence

In a message sent to the committee, Vujanović expressed his intention to inform them when his health improves, indicating a desire to participate in the proceedings. He stated, “If my health condition improves, I will notify you to schedule the hearing.”

Committee member and MP from the Democratic Party, Momčilo Leković, addressed speculations surrounding Vujanović’s absence. He noted that Vujanović’s previous commentary seemed to target former Supreme State Prosecutor Vesna Medenica. Leković suggested that this could open opportunities for future hearings with Medenica, who has claimed to possess extensive knowledge about the case. “I call on her to speak up; she knows numerous details regarding the murder of Duško Jovanović and other serious cases,” Leković remarked.

Future Testimonies and Committee Dynamics

The proposal for Vujanović’s hearing was initially put forth by Milan Knežević, co-chair of the committee. He stated he would cease suggesting candidates for testimonies moving forward, a decision that could affect the committee’s future direction.

Meanwhile, MP Gordan Stojović from the Europe Now Movement (PES) proposed that the committee should next hear from Ibrahim Čikić and Blagoje Zlatičan. The committee agreed to this suggestion, indicating plans for upcoming sessions to gather further insights into the ongoing inquiries.

The developments surrounding Vujanović’s health and absence from the committee highlight the complexities and challenges facing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder of Duško Jovanović, a case that continues to resonate within Montenegrin society.
