Modern Emergency Unit Opens in Rožaje, Enhancing Healthcare Access

A new state-of-the-art emergency medical unit has officially opened in Rožaje, significantly improving local healthcare services. This modern facility replaces an outdated and deteriorated unit, now fully equipped to meet European Union standards. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Health, highlighting the investment of €66,120 for renovations and an additional €34,000 for essential medical equipment.
The opening ceremony was attended by several key officials, including the Minister of Health, Dr. Vojislav Šimun, the Director of the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance, Dr. Vuk Niković, and other prominent figures in healthcare management. This new unit is now capable of providing quicker, more efficient, and safer medical care for emergency situations, as emphasized by Minister Šimun.
“This is a special day for the citizens of Rožaje,” stated Dr. Vojislav Šimun. “They now have access to a modern, fully renovated health station that meets all contemporary medical standards.” The facility will accommodate two doctors and 15 medical technicians, featuring a triage point, consultation area, observation room, and storage for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. Importantly, it is equipped with the latest medical technology.
The emergency unit also plans to implement protocols for home visits and connectivity with all 24 emergency medical units across Montenegro. This initiative is part of a broader project by the Ministry of Health aimed at upgrading all emergency facilities nationwide.
Minister Šimun noted that this new unit is the 18th upgraded emergency medical facility in the country, with plans to renovate 20 units by the end of the year. The upgrades include telemedicine capabilities, integrated EKG machines, laboratory diagnostics, and GPS monitoring of the vehicle fleet.
Additionally, the capital projects for the health center in Rožaje amount to approximately €260,000, with plans for further improvements including the renovation of children’s and women’s health dispensaries. The acquisition of a mammography unit valued at over €100,000 is also on the agenda to enhance preventive care for women.
The Director of the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance, Dr. Vuk Niković, emphasized the importance of improving conditions in healthcare facilities. He expressed a commitment to ensuring that emergency units are accessible and adequately equipped, aiming to align with European Union standards.
“Our goal is to create a system that has been neglected for years,” said Dr. Niković. “We will continue working with local governments and the Ministry of Health to provide the necessary support.” By the end of this year, two more modern emergency units are expected to open in Montenegro, further enhancing the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
