On December 1, 2023, the cultural scene in Montenegro was vibrant as the Doma kulture and the Zavičajni Museum Gallery hosted the launch of artist and writer Libert Bob Slovinic’s book titled “Pitore Liberto.” The event also marked the opening of his over 50th solo exhibition, showcasing a collection of new works entitled “Arboretum.” The event was organized by the Centre for Culture in Kolašin and the “Bijeli Pavle” Centre in Danilovgrad.

The book “Pitore Liberto” delves into themes close to the author’s heart, including visual art, family life, and his love for his wife, Lea. Professor Nataša Peković emphasized the dramatic elements within the narrative, highlighting how it encapsulates personal triumphs, setbacks, and resilience. “In this novel, Liberto is not only an artist recounting his biography but also a critical observer who examines the value of art with a thoughtful and analytical lens,” she noted.

In the trilogy, the first two volumes focus on family history, while the third part recounts Slovinic’s personal journey. The origins of the “Herbarium” are revealed at the end of the narrative when Liberto receives a herbarium created by his neighbor, which ties back to the life of his great-uncle, Don Đuro. The second book is dedicated to the life of Liberto’s father, Ante, while the third follows the artist’s own path, according to Professor Peković.

The artistic and literary program was also introduced by publicist Dragan Mitov Đurović, who pointed out that new gems arise from the well-known artistic workshop of Slobodan Bob Slovinic. The “Arboretum” series serves as a reminder to awaken and preserve the beauty of nature and the purity of the soul. The book continues to narrate the family’s life story, which is a unique jewel of Montenegro’s past and present.

Editor Željko Šćepanović described the book’s content, attributing the richness of Slovinic’s artistic and literary persona to his environment. “The sea, boats, sunsets, snow in Cetinje, first loves, and friendships have influenced him deeply,” he stated. “His novels provide a nuanced history of the state, city, and family, depicting not just events but the relationships among people and societal norms of the time.” He added that personal experiences intricately weave through the narrative, making the novels multidimensional.

Slovinic expressed that this book continues the journey begun in the first two volumes, highlighting the lives of a clergyman and a journalist, followed by his own as an artist. “All the books portray true events,” he stated, thanking attendees for their support.

Following the book launch, the exhibition of Liberto Bob Slovinic’s artworks titled “Arboretum” opened in the Zavičajni Museum Gallery. This series features works created in 2024 and 2025 in his studio at Velja Voda in Budva. The focus of this collection is on various plant species, including both deciduous and evergreen flora.

The exhibition was inaugurated by renowned Montenegrin painter and sculptor Slavenko Rakočević, who praised Slovinic as part of the legacy of great Yugoslav painters. “Through his unique artistic expression, he has contributed significantly to both the Montenegrin and European art scenes,” Rakočević remarked. He emphasized that the works reflect Slovinic’s memories and emotions, providing a glimpse into his life experiences.
