Podgorica Transforms with 130,000 Square Meters of Facade Renovations

The Agency for Housing in Podgorica has made significant strides this year, renovating nearly 130,000 square meters of facade surfaces on residential buildings. This initiative is part of two major projects: “For a More Beautiful Podgorica” and “Improvement of Living Conditions”. The focus on installing energy-efficient thermal insulation facades has resulted in a remarkable achievement, with the agency surpassing last year’s results by 50 percent.
The ongoing efforts aim to create better living conditions for residents and enhance the city’s appearance. According to Vladimir Tomović, Director of the Agency for Housing, the city has allocated €1,600,000 in the budget for 2025 for these projects. Due to high demand from residential associations, additional funding has been secured to meet the needs of property owners, pending favorable weather conditions.
Major Projects Underway
The project “For a More Beautiful Podgorica” has been actively pursued this year. The focus has been on large structures, including the well-known G building at the intersection of Moskovska and Vasa Raičković streets, which was completed in the first half of the year. Other notable renovations include the “Baston” building on Boulevard Save Kovačević, and the recently finished “Lordovka” and “Omniauto” buildings on Boulevard Svetog Petra Cetinjskog. Tomović also highlighted the extensive work on one of the older buildings at the corner of Svetozara Markovića Street and Boulevard Svetog Petra Cetinjskog, along with other projects in Mitra Bakića Street and the “Lepa Kata” structure, which has a facade area larger than some smaller towns in Montenegro.
Tomović emphasized that the agency has made a significant leap in the installation of energy-efficient facades, improving results by 50 percent from last year. With favorable weather expected, he anticipates that this percentage will increase by year-end.
Addressing Internal Spaces and Community Projects
In addition to facade renovations, the “Improvement of Living Conditions” project encompasses various internal upgrades, including the restoration of roofs, modernization of entrance areas, and renewal of electrical installations. The agency is currently working on facades for ten buildings, including several high-rise structures.
During periods of inclement weather, the Agency for Housing adapts its work to indoor projects. This year, heavy rainfall and extreme temperatures have impacted outdoor work schedules. As the rainy season approaches, teams will focus on internal renovations while maximizing the use of good weather to complete additional facade and roof renovations before the year concludes.
Moreover, the agency is collaborating with the Secretariat for Local Self-Government to adapt community buildings in Lijeva Rijeka and Pelev Brijeg. Comprehensive renovations are underway in Lijeva Rijeka, including replacing facade elements, flooring, and complete installations. At the Pelev Brijeg site, roof replacement work has commenced.
The agency is also involved in enhancing local micro-locations, sports facilities, and children’s playgrounds. One such project, dubbed Mikro 020, emphasizes the collaboration of various municipal enterprises. Recent activities include improvements in Ulica 4. jula near the “Pomorandža” high-rise and ongoing work in Vojvođanska Street in Donja Gorica.
In a notable community initiative, the Agency for Housing has installed three new table tennis tables in Njegošev Park, Block 5, and Masline. They have also begun erecting protective fences in the recently reconstructed Špira Mugosa Street. A similar fencing project is in progress on Oktobarska Revolucija Street, with plans to also secure children’s play areas in Donja Gorica.
As renovations continue, the Agency for Housing remains committed to creating a more beautiful and livable Podgorica, ensuring that residents take pride in their transformed urban environment.
