In a crucial match for their standings, SC Derbi defeated Krka 85-75 on November 5, 2023. This victory came after a previous loss to Igokea, and coach Petar Mijović labeled the game as “do or die.” The win marked SC Derbi’s second victory in five games in Group B, providing them with a vital boost in their pursuit of a Top 8 position in the ABA League.

The match showcased SC Derbi’s depth, especially with the return of Darijus Johnson from injury. Despite facing a strong Krka team led by former SC Derbi coach Dejan Jakara, SC Derbi managed to take control of the game through a combination of solid defense and effective rebounding.

The first quarter ended in a tie at 19-19, with both teams exchanging leads. SC Derbi struggled with shooting percentages early on, but excelled in rebounds and assists. The second quarter saw SC Derbi shift gears, opening the period with a 9-0 run that set the tone for the rest of the half. By halftime, they held an 11-point lead at 44-33, thanks to a strong performance from Zoran Vučević and strategic plays from the team.

The momentum shifted in the third quarter, where SC Derbi faced challenges on offense, scoring only 15 points while conceding 28 to Krka. This shift allowed Krka to not only equalize but also gain a lead of 61-59 by the end of the quarter. SC Derbi’s players appeared to struggle under pressure as Krka’s zone defense effectively disrupted their rhythm.

Determined to reclaim control, Nikola Pavlićević stepped up in the fourth quarter, scoring nine points in a crucial span that helped SC Derbi regain their advantage. His leadership proved instrumental as the team went on a 16-0 run, extending their lead to 75-61 with just under six minutes left in the game. From that point onward, SC Derbi maintained their lead, ensuring that Krka could not close the gap.

Emir Hadžibegović was the standout performer for SC Derbi, scoring 19 points with a perfect record from three-point range. Pavlićević contributed 15 points and six assists, while Aleksa Ilić recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, showcasing his all-around game. Zoran Vučević added another 12 points to the tally, reinforcing the team’s offensive strength.

In contrast, Krka’s best players were Bailey and Maton, both scoring 17 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Despite their efforts, Krka remains winless in the league after this match.

SC Derbi will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next game against Dubai on November 9, 2023. This victory not only boosts their confidence but also keeps their hopes alive for a playoff spot in the ABA League.
