Wes Fogden, a former midfielder for Bournemouth and Brighton, sustained two broken vertebrae in his neck during an FA Trophy match on March 10, 2024. The incident occurred while Fogden was playing for Dorchester Town against Basingstoke Town, leading to the abandonment of the match.

Dorchester Town, where Fogden serves as a player-coach, released a statement shortly after the injury. They confirmed that Fogden was conscious and able to communicate as he was transported to the hospital. The club noted that scans revealed the extent of his injuries, which will require him to wear a neck collar for several weeks.

Club’s Response and Support

In their statement, Dorchester Town expressed gratitude to the staff and players from both teams for their immediate assistance on the pitch. They stated, “We will provide further updates on Wes’ condition when we are able to. From everyone at the club, we send our love and very best wishes to Wes for a full and speedy recovery.”

The match, originally scheduled for the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy, will be replayed on March 12, 2024. Dorchester had previously secured their place in this round with a decisive 4-0 victory against Bideford.

Messages of support for Fogden have poured in from various football clubs and fans. One supporter wrote, “So sorry to hear this. Wishing you a very speedy and full recovery, Wes,” while another echoed sentiment by stating, “Good luck Wes, the football family is with you.”

Fogden’s Career Highlights

Fogden, 37, has had an extensive football career, accumulating over 500 senior appearances across various clubs. He began his professional journey at Brighton before moving to Bournemouth, where he contributed to the team’s promotion to the Championship under manager Eddie Howe. Although he departed from Bournemouth prior to their ascent to the Premier League, his impact on the club remains significant.

Other clubs Fogden has represented include Yeovil Town and Poole Town, both of which have also voiced their support during this challenging time.

As the football community rallies around him, many remain hopeful for his recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch. Last year’s FA Trophy was clinched by Aldershot Town, who triumphed over Spennymoor Town with a score of 3-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium. Aldershot will enter this year’s competition at the third round stage, alongside the other 23 teams in the National League Premier.
