Živković Addresses Allegations Amid Political Turmoil in Montenegro

During a recent session of the Montenegrin Assembly, Danijel Živković, leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), expressed strong concerns over the ongoing investigations by the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT). He warned that if sensitive information related to the proceedings were to be leaked to the public, it would not only discredit individuals involved but could also expose the entire political landscape.
Živković highlighted the potential repercussions of such disclosures, referencing troubling activities that he claims have taken place in various locations, including motels in the Czech Republic and hotels in Belgrade. He posed rhetorical questions to fellow lawmakers, suggesting that if the public were to learn about these matters, it would not be a comfortable situation for anyone involved.
He stated, “If we were to start publishing what representatives of the parliamentary majority think of each other, believe me, it would not be pleasant.” This sentiment underscores the gravity of the accusations that could surface if investigations proceed without discretion.
The DPS leader pointed specifically to ongoing suspicions and allegations surrounding certain prosecutors, questioning their integrity and involvement in illicit activities, including cigarette smuggling. Živković asserted that the public deserves to know the truth but cautioned against the weaponization of such information for political gain.
As the political climate continues to heat up in Montenegro, Živković emphasized the need for transparency and accountability within the political sphere. He passionately declared that should these issues come to light, it could lead to significant consequences for many politicians. “If we have reached a point where 90 percent of the political scene could end up in prison, we must take a stand,” he warned.
He criticized the SDT for allegedly using confidential information to discredit political figures, suggesting that this strategy could disrupt the entire political landscape. Živković remarked that customary practices and traditions hold more value in Montenegro than the law itself, indicating a complex relationship between governance and societal norms.
In closing, Živković made it clear that the DPS is prepared to confront any challenges ahead, even if it results in severe consequences such as imprisonment. “Those who strike at the honor of these people can be assured that we will respond much more fiercely than anyone expects,” he concluded, signaling a determination to protect the party’s reputation amid growing scrutiny.
As Montenegro navigates this turbulent political landscape, the implications of Živković’s statements and the ongoing investigations by the SDT will undoubtedly shape the future of the country’s governance and political integrity.
