Ayan Mukerji Exits ‘Dhoom 4’ Amid Creative Differences

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji has officially withdrawn from the much-anticipated project Dhoom 4, produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF), following reported creative disagreements. Sources indicate that Mukerji’s vision for the film diverged significantly from the studio’s direction, prompting his decision to step back from the franchise.
According to information from Bollywood Hungama, Mukerji was in negotiations to helm the next installment of the action series, which was expected to feature Ranbir Kapoor in a leading role. However, the director felt he had limited influence over the screenplay, which was written by Shridhar Raghavan. Prior to his departure, Mukerji expressed a desire to contribute creatively rather than merely execute a pre-established plan.
Amicable Departure and Future Plans
As part of his discussions with YRF head Aditya Chopra and Kapoor, Mukerji’s decision to exit was met with understanding, and insiders have described the parting as “completely amicable.” Despite Mukerji’s departure, YRF plans to move forward with Dhoom 4 under a new director. There may also be a reassessment of casting options, despite previous indications that Kapoor had already reserved dates for the film.
Following this shift, Mukerji is redirecting his focus to the Brahmastra series, which he has termed his passion project. He is currently developing Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev, the sequel to the 2022 fantasy epic. Although production was initially slated to begin sooner, it is now anticipated that filming will commence in 2026. Mukerji aims to deepen the storytelling within the Astraverse, integrating elements of mythology, drama, and spectacle.
This transition marks a significant moment for Mukerji, known for his successful films such as Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and the first Brahmastra installment. As he prepares to embark on this new chapter, both fans and industry insiders will be keenly watching how his creative vision develops in the upcoming sequel.
