Buducnost Voli Dominates Mega 100-82 Ahead of Key Match
In a commanding display, Buducnost Voli triumphed over Mega with a score of 100-82 in the eleventh round of the ABA League, marking their ninth victory in the regional competition this season. This win, secured at the “MTEL Dvorana Moraca” in Podgorica, also serves as a vital prelude to their upcoming match against Turk Telekom in the Eurocup, scheduled for January 11, 2024.
The team, under the guidance of coach Andrej Zakelj, showcased impressive performance, maintaining a solid lead throughout the game. This marks the second consecutive time Buducnost has defeated Mega this season, following a previous victory of 98-65 in Belgrade. The win against Mega bolstered Buducnost’s momentum as they prepare for what may be their most important match of the season.
Buducnost demonstrated a well-rounded game with contributions from 11 players, although Andrija Slavkovic did not participate. Notably, American center James Thompson returned after a month out due to a muscle injury, while Oleksandr Kovlijar was absent from this match. The team’s offensive strategy was particularly effective, highlighted by a shooting accuracy of almost 70 percent for two-point shots and five three-pointers made out of ten attempts.
The first quarter set the tone for the match, with Buducnost outscoring Mega 31-19. Despite Mega having a slight advantage in rebounds, Buducnost’s ability to maintain possession without turnovers in the opening quarter was crucial. The team took an early lead and never relinquished it, with Mega unable to overcome the deficit at any point during the game.
As the match progressed, Buducnost extended their lead to a maximum of 19 points during the second quarter. They entered halftime with a comfortable margin of 15 points at 53-38, showcasing a solid offensive rhythm and defensive resilience.
In the second half, Mega attempted to close the gap, reducing the deficit to 11 points, but Buducnost responded effectively. Key performances from players like Đorđije Jovanovic, who hit three consecutive three-pointers early in the quarter, helped restore their lead to 19 points. By the end of the third quarter, Buducnost maintained their lead, finishing the period at 75-56.
The final quarter saw Buducnost continue to dominate, never allowing the lead to dwindle below 15 points. A late three-pointer from Fletcher Magee pushed the lead to 23 points, sealing the victory for Buducnost.
Individual performances stood out, with Aksel Butej leading the team with 20 points and five rebounds. Rashid Sulejmon added 19 points, all scored in the first half, while Nikola Tanaskovic contributed 13 points. On the opposing side, Mega’s top scorers were Sava Drezgic and Bogoljub Markovic, each with 14 points.
Looking ahead, Buducnost’s next challenge comes on January 11 when they face Zadar away in the next round of the ABA League. The team will aim to carry this winning momentum into their upcoming Eurocup match, seeking strong support from their fans to secure a position in the quarterfinals.
