Montenegro Urged to Establish Transparent Immigration System
The Preokret Movement has called for Montenegro to urgently implement a structured and transparent immigration management system in response to the country’s current security challenges. The organization highlighted the necessity of balancing national security interests with a sustainable immigration policy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public trust and preventing discrimination based on a person’s background.
In a recent statement, Preokret expressed concern over the rising number of foreign nationals obtaining residency, property, or citizenship in Montenegro without adequate public oversight or institutional verification. They stated, “Citizens have the right to know who enters the system, under what conditions, and to be assured that individuals with criminal or corrupt ties do not slip through among those who wish to live and work honestly.”
To address these issues, the movement insists on the implementation of strict background checks concerning the origin of capital and personal data. They advocate for ensuring public transparency and digital accessibility for all residency and citizenship decisions, along with establishing international cooperation for the exchange of security data. Strengthening democratic oversight of immigration policies is also deemed essential.
Montenegro prides itself on being an open society that respects diversity. However, Preokret argues that it must also be an organized state that does not tolerate chaos. The organization believes that only through robust institutions can the rights of both citizens and those wishing to integrate into society be protected.
Preokret’s statement underscores that this issue transcends national or religious identity; it is fundamentally about security, trust, and the rule of law. As Montenegro navigates its immigration challenges, the movement calls for a conscientious approach to foster a harmonious community while safeguarding national interests.
