The Montenegro National Water Polo Team has embarked on a training camp in Naples, Italy, in preparation for the upcoming European Championship. The team, led by head coach Dejan Savić, will train and compete against the Italian national team from today until Tuesday. This official friendly match is part of the final preparations for the championship, scheduled to take place from January 10 to 25, 2024, in Belgrade.

During this training session, Savić has brought a roster of 16 players, including notable athletes such as Petar Tešanović, Lazar Andrić, and Darko Đurović. However, two players, Dušan Banićević and Danilo Stupar, will miss the camp due to illness.

Upcoming Matches and Championship Format

The friendly match against Italy is scheduled for Monday, December 29, at 19:00 local time. Prior to this training camp, Montenegro played a control match against Georgia in Kotor, winning decisively with a score of 18-13.

In the European Championship, Montenegro is placed in Group A, alongside Hungary, France, and Malta. Montenegro’s first match will be against Malta on January 10 at 18:00, followed by a crucial game against Hungary on January 12 at 15:15. The team will conclude the group stage with a match against France on January 14 at 18:00.

The top three teams from each group will advance to the next stage, forming Group E with the leading teams from Group C, which includes Spain, Israel, Serbia, and the Netherlands. The two highest-ranking teams from this new group will secure a spot in the semifinals.

As the championship draws near, the Montenegro National Water Polo Team is focused on fine-tuning their skills and strategies to compete at a high level against some of Europe’s best teams. With a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, the team aims to make a significant impact in the tournament.
