Podgorica Revitalizes Over 130,000 Square Meters of Facades

The Agency for Housing in Podgorica has announced the successful completion of renovations on nearly 130,000 square meters of facade surfaces across residential buildings this year. This initiative is part of the projects titled “For a More Beautiful Face of Podgorica” and “Improvement of Living Conditions.” The effort aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal and living conditions in the capital city.

Vladimir Tomovic, the director of the Agency for Housing, stated that the city has made significant strides in implementing energy-efficient facade renovations. The results from this year have already surpassed last year’s achievements by 50 percent. With favorable weather conditions, the agency anticipates that this percentage could increase further by the end of the year.

The city has allocated €1,600,000 in its budget for the 2025 fiscal year to support these initiatives. Tomovic emphasized that, due to high demand from condominium associations, additional funding has been secured to accommodate the requests for facade improvements, contingent upon weather permitting.

Major Projects Underway

Among the notable projects completed this year are major buildings such as the G building at the intersection of Moskovska and Vasa Raickovic streets, and the Baston building on Boulevard Save Kovacevic. Other significant renovations include the Lordovka and Omniauto buildings on Boulevard Svetog Petra Cetinjskog, alongside older structures at the intersection of Svetozara Markovica and Boulevard Svetog Petra Cetinjskog.

Tomovic pointed out that these buildings have more facade surfaces than some smaller towns in Montenegro. The focus on energy-efficient and thermal-insulated facades has led to substantial advancements in the quality of life for residents.

In addition to facade work, the “Improvement of Living Conditions” project addresses various aspects of building renovations. This includes roof repairs, interior upgrades, and the modernization of electrical and fire safety systems. Currently, work is ongoing on the facades of several high-rise buildings, with plans to renovate additional roofs by the end of the year.

Adaptation to Weather Challenges

Tomovic also highlighted the agency’s adaptability to challenging weather conditions. During periods of heavy rain and extreme heat, teams focused on indoor renovations, including entrance areas and other sheltered spaces. As the city approaches a wetter season, the agency plans to adjust its work schedule accordingly, ensuring that outdoor projects can continue whenever weather permits.

Efforts to enhance community infrastructure extend beyond just residential buildings. The agency is collaborating with the local government and civil society to adapt two community centers in Lijeva Rijeka and Pelev Brijeg. These adaptations include comprehensive renovations involving facade replacements, flooring updates, and the installation of new lighting and sanitary facilities.

As part of community engagement, teams are also involved in the development of micro-locations, sports facilities, and children’s playgrounds throughout the city. Recently completed projects include improvements near the Pomorandža residential complex and ongoing work in Vojvodanska Street and the courtyard areas along Boulevard Dr. Ibrahim Koristovic.

In a bid to foster recreational activities, the agency has installed three new table tennis tables in Njegošev Park, Block 5, and Masline, replacing those that had previously been damaged. Additionally, protective fencing is being constructed along Špira Mugoše Street, which was recently renovated, to ensure the safety of pedestrians and enhance the overall urban landscape.

Tomovic concluded by reiterating the agency’s commitment to improving the look and feel of Podgorica, aiming to make it a city that residents can take pride in.
