Podgorica’s Mayor and Eagle Hills Discuss Urban Green Development
The Mayor of Podgorica, Prof. Dr. Saša Mujović, met with Muhamed Alabar, founder and president of Eagle Hills, to discuss strategic locations for developing urban green spaces in the Montenegrin capital. This meeting focused on the concept of “green and blue infrastructure,” highlighting investment potential in areas for public amenities, recreational spaces, and green surfaces.
During their discussions, Mujović emphasized the importance of creating mixed-use zones that would play a crucial role in transforming Podgorica into a modern, sustainable, and functional city. He presented various opportunities for establishing new parks, rest areas, and children’s facilities, along with developing high-quality recreational and sports zones.
Key Locations for Urban Development
A significant point of discussion was the establishment of a continuous network of walking and cycling paths. This infrastructure aims to connect key areas of the city, enhancing residents’ access to outdoor spaces. Mujović noted that these locations represent long-term potential for space valuation, improving living standards, and fostering a distinctive urban identity for Podgorica.
Among the most promising sites identified were Stari Aerodrom, Lješkopoljska Gorica, the corridor along the Moraca River, Zlatica Park Forest, and Dajbabska Gora. These areas offer opportunities for investment and the development of expansive green zones, landscaping, and additional amenities.
Mujović highlighted that many of these locations are predominantly owned by the city, which significantly reduces administrative and legal hurdles in case investment projects commence. This ownership creates a favorable environment for rapid project implementation, aligning with modern urban planning standards.
Future Collaboration and Opportunities
He also stated that certain segments of the proposed zones hold economic appeal due to their potential for integrating complementary facilities that could generate additional value. Alabar expressed keen interest in the projects presented, noting that Podgorica boasts an exceptional climate, attractive locations, and substantial underutilized development space.
Alabar described Podgorica as a beautiful city with wonderful people and numerous opportunities, indicating his readiness to consider concrete proposals in the near future. The meeting opened avenues for ongoing discussions and deeper engagement with strategically significant locations for the capital.
Potential collaboration with Eagle Hills could further accelerate the development of modern, organized, and functional public spaces in Podgorica, enhancing the city’s reputation and quality of life for its residents.
