Ruth Langsford Opens Up About Support from Coleen Nolan
Ruth Langsford has publicly acknowledged the support of her co-star, Coleen Nolan, during a challenging period in her life. In a candid interview with Woman and Home magazine, Langsford discussed how Nolan has played a crucial role in helping her navigate tough times, particularly following personal losses and significant life changes.
Langsford, who joined the Loose Women panel in 1999 and became a regular member from 2014, expressed deep gratitude for Nolan’s friendship. She described Nolan as not only a close friend but also an “agony aunt” known for her wisdom. “Coleen is a great mate of mine… you need the shoulder to cry on and the advice but sometimes you just need to laugh and she makes me roar,” Langsford stated.
The presenter has faced considerable difficulties over the last few years, including the tragic death of her elder sister, Julia Langsford, who took her own life in 2019, and her separation from fellow television presenter Eamonn Holmes in 2024. Although Langsford and Holmes have not yet finalized their divorce, Holmes has entered a new relationship with relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, who is significantly younger than him.
In her interview, Langsford elaborated on the importance of mental health support. She mentioned that she initially resisted the idea of counselling but eventually found it beneficial. “In the end, a very good friend of mine practically begged me to see her counsellor. I did it to shut her up and I had one session and absolutely loved her,” Langsford explained. She emphasized that counselling has helped her to address not just relationship issues but various aspects of her life as she navigates new chapters at her age.
Reflecting on her experiences, Langsford noted the value of having a close-knit group of friends who have stood by her during her struggles. “I have felt completely supported by them,” she remarked, highlighting the importance of friendship during difficult times.
In discussing her co-stars, Langsford expressed admiration for Janet Street-Porter, stating, “Janet is so irreverent. I sometimes think, ‘I wish I could be more Janet.’” She acknowledged that while she has become more self-assured over the years, she still cares about how others perceive her.
Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12:30 PM on ITV1 and is available for streaming on ITVX. Langsford’s openness about her struggles and the support she has received from her peers resonates with many, showcasing the importance of solidarity in challenging times.
